A candidate for Governor is speaking out on all of the damage in Yates County.
This afternoon Rob Astorino was in Penn Yan for a gun rights rally, but he also took time to look around and see just how bad the county was rocked by this week’s storms.
Astorino says he understands how hard it can be for a community to handle this kind of devastation.
“Unfortunately when Hurrican Irene and Sandy came in, we had to deal with the same kind of stuff. I know how bad it is and how it can ruin businesses, homes and just stop commerce from moving. Here in Penn Yan, we got to see a little of it. The good news is that it’s starting to recede. It’s leaving a mess behind, but I’m just hoping that people have the right insurance. If not, then I hope the state can help them in some way,” said Astorino.
Astorino is hoping to unseat Andrew Cuomo for Governor. He is the current Westchester County Executive.
Lieutenant Governor Bob Duffy was also in Penn Yan earlier in the week offering support and assistance to those in need.
Congressman Tom Reed, who represents Yates County, says he thinks the Penn Yan community will be able to bounce back from all the damage this spring storm has caused.
“We’re going to be there. We’re going to stand firm. We’ll get through this, and just totally show who we are here. We’re helping out neighbors, and we come together in a time of need. That’s what community is all about,” said Reed.
