It's a week to celebrate the hard work done by EMS workers from across the nation. Sunday morning, the Monroe-Livingston Regional EMS Council kicked off the Emergency Medical Service Week with a "Day in the Park" picnic.
At the picnic, EMS workers took part in a skill competition, held a blood pressure clinic and were honored by the council. Officials say this is the 40th year that Emergency Medical Service Week has been celebrated.
Also taking part in the event were state senators Joe Robach and Ted O'Brien as well as county executive Maggie Brooks.
The award winners of Sunday’s skill competition:
Physician of Excellence – Brian Greenberg, MD, ED Attending Medical Control Physician at Rochester General Hospital Emergency Department
Advanced Life Support Provider of the Year – Christopher Murtaugh, EMT-P, EMS Captain and Public Information Officer at Henrietta Volunteer Ambulance
Basic Life Support Provider of the Year – Timothy Huthings, EMT-B, Brighton Volunteer Ambulance
Youth Provider of the Year – Michael Fitch, Perinton Volunteer Ambulance Corp
EMS Educator of Excellence – Ron Patchett, Irondequoit Ambulance
Harriet C. Weber EMS Leadership Award – William Arnold, EMT-D, Chili Volunteer Ambulance service
EMS Agency of the Year – Greece Volunteer Ambulance Service, Inc.
