It isn't quite the same as the Hatfields and McCoys deciding to play nice. But two of the world's largest technology giants have found a way to settle a series of long-standing legal beefs.

Apple and Google have agreed to drop nearly two dozen lawsuits in both U.S. and European courts against each other. At issue were the operating systems Apple uses for its iPhone and Google's Android software. Also tossed in the mix were accusations of patent infringement against Apple by Motorola Mobility, which Google bought two years ago.

In a joint statement, Apple and Google say they will work together on patent reform. Meanwhile, the Apple and Samsung battle over smartphone technology rages on, with no sign of the two sides making up anytime soon.
