A free mobile application is now available to provide up-to-date information on fishing, hunting, wildlife watching and other outdoor activities in New York state.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the launch of the "New York Fish and Wildlife" app follows last week's Tourism Summit and coincides with the start of the summer travel season.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation developed the application in partnership with Parks By Nature Network, at no cost to the state. It's free at the iTunes App Store and Android Market.

The app provides advanced GPS mapping features, species information, news advisories and weather alerts, social networking and photo sharing, and map tiles for offline use.
