A section of the Erie Canal between Pittsford and the Genesee River is scheduled to reopen Wednesday morning, but other stretches of the state canal system remain closed because of high water.

Heavy rains last week caused flooding that raised water levels throughout the waterways, forcing the state to close about half of the 524-mile canal system.

On Tuesday, The state Canal Corp. said that the Erie Canal from Lock E-17 at Little Falls in Herkimer County to Oneida Lake had reopened.

Other sections of the system scheduled to re-open Wednesday morning include Erie Canal from Lock E-7 in Niskayuna in Schenectady County to Lock E-17 and the Cayuga-Seneca and Oswego canals.
