Microsoft is expanding the surface of, well, its Surface. The company is rolling out a larger version of its tablet in the hopes of bridging the gap between those who want the portability of a tablet and the full featured programs of a laptop computer.

The Surface Pro 3 will have a screen that measures 12 inches diagonally that's up from the 10.6-inch screen in previous models. Microsoft says it has also made the device thinner - and beefed up the innards to make it faster. As for programs, Microsoft says it worked with software developers to get their wares to take advantage of the new tablet's hardware.

The Surface Pro 3 will go on sale this summer with prices starting at $799. Microsoft will start taking orders today.
