Those who live or work in the City of Rochester will have a chance to weigh in on changes to the Rochester Police Department during a public meeting tonight. The meeting will start at 6 p.m. at Aquinas Institute on Dewey Avenue.
Under the new model, the department would be reorganized from two divisions, east and west, to five sections. The new proposal would extend RPD's Center City Section beyond the traditional boundaries of Downtown to include Corn Hill, South Wedge and Wadsworth Square neighborhoods. Also included would be the East End and Brown Square entertainment districts, as well as the High Falls business district.
The new model is geared to establish a better relationship between the community and RPD officers.
The shift to the five section model will be complete in early 2015.
