Police say arrests have been made following several, separate fights at Ontario Beach Park on Monday.
According to police, several fights broke out between teens in Charlotte leading to the arrest of 10 people on charges of fighting and disorderly conduct. Rochester police shut down the park and nearby roads for an hour and a half, and officers from Irondequoit, Greece and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office were called in for backup.
Officials say no one was seriously injured, but the fights did scare a number of people who were there trying to enjoy Memorial Day.
“I was trying to have a picnic. I was with my family and friends, and all of a sudden you see cops running over, and you hear a bunch of people screaming,” said Andrena Cunningham, “Cops were coming out of nowhere. People were getting maced. People were losing their kids.”
What many families thought would be a beautiful day at the beach turned into a nightmare.
“When I came out here everyone was out running around. People were scattering, and the kids were running. It was just crazy. Everyone was just everywhere,” said Jackie Wright.
“It is very scary, and my son had just asked to go to the playground, which I can see, but it is far away from me. I’m glad I told him no,” said Cunningham.
“You can’t even enjoy yourself. You can come out here and think you’ll have a good time. You had a picnic set up, but then things go into disarray,” said Wright.
Police say there was an initial report of someone stabbed, but they didn’t find a victim.
