A not guilty plea Wednesday morning from a man accused of killing a baby girl in Greece.
Cory Favata was arraigned in State Supreme Court this morning. He's charged with the murder of 17-month-old Rileigh Daniels.
Family members of Favata were in the courtroom to show their support including his mother and brother but they had no comment.
The family of Daniels was not in court today but they say Daniels was shaken while her mother was at work. Daniels suffered a seizure and brain swelling and died last month. Favata was the mother’s boyfriend.
We asked Favata’s attorney, Joe Damelio, if Favata is upset about Daniels’ death. Damelio said, “Absolutely. He was very close with that little girl.”
Assistant District Attorney Sara VanStrydonck said, “I think any time something happens to a child it's the most difficult type of case. I don't think anyone in the community wants to believe that something bad can happen to a child.”
Favata is due back in court on August 5. He is being held in the Monroe County Jail without bail.
