A Rochester Police officer was killed in a crash Tuesday night in Greece. Police say 43-year-old Felicia Gilchrist was in a car headed to the hospital. Her father was driving. Police say he ran a red light at the intersection of Latta and Long Pond Roads. The car they were in hit another car.
Police don't know if Officer Gilchrist died because of the impact or because of her illness.
Nikki Dennis, sister, said, “Last night, when she called she couldn't take the pain anymore. So like any parent would do, you rush over to your child and take them to the hospital.”
Nikki Dennis is the sister of Officer Felicia Gilchrist. She called her sister, Lisa. Officer Gilchrist was in her father's car, rushing to the hospital, when police say he went through a red light at Latta and Long Pond Roads and hit another car.
Thirteen years ago, as a young cop, Officer Gilchrist was badly hurt when she was hit by a car on duty.
Greece Police are still investigating last night's crash. They did not ticket Officer Gilchrist's father.
Deputy Chief Jason Helfer said, “No alcohol involvement, nothing to that effect. It simply appears that a father was trying to rush his sick daughter to the hospital.”
News10NBC asked Dennis how she will remember her sister.
Dennis said, “Someone that lived life, enjoyed life. She was a great mother, a great daughter, a great sister and a great friend. She was my sister.”
Greece Police say it's up to the medical examiner to determine how Officer Gilchrist died, whether it was because of the crash or because of her health problems?
