It was an exciting day for two local students competing at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.

Sriram Hathwar, a 14-year-old from Corning, spelled both his round two and round three words correctly and is still in the competition. He came in third place last year.

Also representing our area, Gavin Buehler from Williamson, Wayne County. He spelled his word correctly in the second round, but misspelled verbigeration in the third round and was eliminated from the competition. Buehler competed in the 2012 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
