If you want to see the people who are the most frustrated over the Medley Centre in Irondequoit, just go to the old mall and talk to the people who try to make their living next to it.
News10NBC did that after our exclusive interview with mall owner Scott Congel. He never talks on camera, but he talked to us and said how frustrated he is over the lack of development at the mall.
Eddie Verela runs a barbershop on Ridge Road, directly behind the Medley Centre. News10NBC showed him what mall owner Scott Congel said, including when he said how frustrated he is.
Eddie Varela, Prestige Barbershop, said, “To me, to be honest with you, it seems a little bit sad that six years ago and he still hasn't done anything with the project.”
There was also reaction from the Twitter handle, Lonely Medley Centre. The handle wrote, “He might want to throttle back the great recession narrative. We get it. Times were tough, six years ago.”
On Thursday, News10NBC took what Congel said to Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks. She is one of his toughest critics these days.
Maggie Brooks, Monroe County Executive, said, “My frustration is that we had a contract with him and he's violated the contract.”
Scott Congel paid a $100,000 fine to the Town of Irondequoit Wednesday. That was for a code violation in the mall. The county says he owes millions in taxes. Congel said he is committed to getting something done at Medley Centre.
