State Police investigating death of hiker in Wyoming Co.

Officials say a man was killed in a hiking accident in Wyoming County on Saturday evening after he lost his footing and fell 300 feet.

According to police, 25-year-old Stephen Wagner was hiking with a friend on Falls Road in the Town of Sheldon. Wagner was looking for a place to repel when he slipped and fell 300 feet down the ravine and into the water below.

The investigation into the man’s death is still ongoing, but police say it appears to be an accident.

In addition to state police, the Sheldon’s fire department and the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the fall.
