There's a meeting tonight for the public to speak out on the City of Rochester's plans for the Port of Rochester and the beach area.
Mayor Lovely Warren has said the plans, which include a high-rise with retail space are still in flux.
“This is a natural outlet of the Genesee River and it has a lot of natural beauty.” Beauty Tom Wetzel doesn't want to see compromised. “I think when you bring in these high-rises it just detracts from it.”
But that's part of the City's plans for the port and the beach area -- a high-rise with apartment buildings and retail space. Wetzel said, “I know it makes sense to develop this area because it's such a great resource but you have to be careful to keep it in tune with the nature of the place.”
The specific details haven't been worked out yet but tonight at a public meeting hosted by the Charlotte Community Association residents can say how they feel. Many told us they'd prefer something smaller.
Greece resident Dave Milburn said, “I'd like to see them build some other buildings along the strip here more convenient places where people can go and relax.”
Tonight’s meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Robach Community Center on Beach Avenue.
