A U-Haul box truck with more than $2 million worth of gold and silver inside rolled over on the Thruway near Buffalo.

The rollover happened just after 9:00 a.m. Monday on I-90 eastbound in Cheektowaga.

State Police say the driver, who was a governmental contracted transporter, told them he was carrying $2 million worth of gold and silver inside the truck. Police secured the scene, verified the driver’s credentials and arranged for an armored vehicle to response and take the metals.

The cargo consisted of large mechanical filter like cores used in military aircraft which contain amounts of gold and silver.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The cause is under investigation.
