It’s been nearly eight months since a man from Fairport was found shot to death in a cornfield and now his family has increased the reward offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
Jeffrey Newland was reported missing by his family on October 21. Later that day, his car was found unoccupied on Golf Avenue in Pittsford. It was the next day that police found his body in a cornfield, just a few hundred feet from his car. He had suffered a fatal gunshot wound.
Newland’s family is offering a $25,000 reward. Sheriff's deputies tell us this is in addition to the reward offered by Crime Stoppers. A billboard advertising this reward is posted on 31F in Fairport (westbound) just before the Baird Road intersection, in the hopes of increasing awareness of this unsolved crime.
Anyone with information that could be helpful to investigation is urged to call the Monroe County Sheriff's Office at 585-753-4178.
