A Shortsville woman is recovering after deputies say she jumped out of a moving car as it careened out of control in a mall parking lot.

Officials say that 20-year-old Sarah Coon was driving her car in the parking lot at Eastview Mall Tuesday afternoon when she noticed smoke coming out from under the hood of her car. When she tried to stop, the brakes on her car failed.

Sheriff's deputies say  Coon dove out of her moving car as it continued to roll towards other parked vehicles. News10NBC is told her car hit another vehicle and started a chain reaction crash involving two more cars. Deputies say those other cars were unoccupied. When emergency crews arrived on the scene, they found the victim had suffered serious abrasions all over her body. Police say the engine of her car, a 2000 Chrysler Concorde, was completely engulfed in flames.

Coon was taken to F.F. Thompson Memorial Hospital and ticketed for unsafe brakes.
