Does your pet keep you up at night? You aren't alone

Created: 06/06/2014 1:16 PM WHEC.com

For many Americans, what's keeping them up at night is their pet.

Researchers at the Mayo Clinic for Sleep Medicine in Phoenix, Arizona studied more than 100 patients. Each one was asked about pets in the home and whether they woke them at night. They found nearly half of the participants had pets and one out of 10 reported trouble sleeping because of their furry friend.

Snoring, whimpering, wandering around and needing to go outside were all behaviors that disrupted the owner's sleep.

A similar study in 2002 found just one-percent of pet owners had trouble sleeping because of their pets.
