Another driver has had their window shattered by something while driving on 390. It is the third instance in the past two days. Now investigators are saying they may be closing in on whoever is responsible.

The incident happened on 390 near the 490 split and the Lyell Avenue exit around 2:30 p.m. Friday. Sheriff’s deputies say a pickup truck driver immediately pulled over and called 911 after hearing his window shatter. Police launched a full blown search for a possible suspect.

There is no evidence of what happened earlier Friday, but around 3:00 p.m. Friday, traffic was at a standstill on the highway below, while deputies and troopers investigated this latest incident. The investigation netted police something significant.

Capt. Michael Fowler, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, said, “Some of the officers on scene and deputies on scene have been able to put together small pieces of information that have provided us some investigative leads.”

Monroe County Sheriff’s Captain Michael Fowler says those leads, strong enough to warrant bringing in the state police helicopter. Authorities may have a description of the vehicle involved in now the 12th incident of a shattered car window. The driver was in a pickup truck, headed south on Interstate 390 around 2:35 p.m. Friday.

Captain Fowler said, “He pulled over and contacted 911 as soon as he could.”

State troopers and sheriff's deputies showed up within minutes, stopped traffic and got to work searching for evidence. It delayed drivers.

Fowler says the incident is similar to the others. On Thursday, it happened to a vehicle headed north on 390 near Lexington Avenue. No injuries Thursday or Friday. There have been no serious injuries in any of these cases. Authorities don’t want to run out of time. They want to ease the fears of drivers like Gates resident Heather Songin. She worries about her daughter’s safety in the back seat.

Heather Songin, Gates resident, said, “I actually take more side roads, I hate to say it, but unfortunately, it is making a change in my life. I'm afraid to take the expressway honestly. I'm deathly afraid of it.”

Authorities think they’re closer, but are still appealing to motorists.

Fowler said, “We continue to ask for their support, any witness observation they may have please contact us and share that information so we can follow up on it.”

Fowler did confirm the incident in Avon Thursday night is not related to the incidents in Monroe County. Police are encouraging motorists to be alert. If this happens to you, pull over safely and call 911.
