Rochester kids are exercising their green thumbs to wrap up a year of learning about growing a garden.

On Friday, hundreds of Pre-K and elementary school children planted flowers and vegetables at Ontario Beach Park. It is part of the Flower City Kids Planting and Picnic Day.

These kids spent the year growing the plants and organizers say some of them have never been up to the park until today.

Sara Scott, Flower City Kids, said, "It is a sense of responsibility. They're caring for the plant from seed until it grows, watering it every day. Some groups do observations and writing about their plants. It's a great way to build environmental stewardship: caring about the Earth and coming getting their hands dirty."

This is the 28th year of the Flower City Kids Program. Kids also enjoyed lunch and a ride on the carousel.
