There is a big push to beef up downtown Rochester. Senator Chuck Schumer was in town Monday talking about his request for $1.6 million in federal funding to spruce up Main Street.
The move comes after money was already secured for the new bus terminal. Schumer says the new terminal will have buses inside which gets them off Main Street. He says Main Street will be a blank slate to redevelop the city from the Liberty Pole to the Genesee River.
Senator Charles Schumer said, "We have the best chance in over three decades to revitalize Main Street and chart a new prosperous course for downtown. We have the potential to inject new energy, street level retail, restaurants and housing in the heart of downtown. We shouldn't under emphasize housing because people are moving back to downtown Rochester and this is going to help."
The new bus terminal is slated to open in November.
