Police chase leads to crash in Rochester

Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputies say a driver tried to run his girlfriend off the road and then led police on a chase through several communities before crashing into a building in Rochester’s South Wedge neighborhood.

Alton L. Morrison, 29, of East Rochester, was taken to the hospital after the crash. He will be charged with one count of attempted aggravated assault on a police officer, two counts of first degree reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and numerous vehicle and traffic violations.

Police say the incident began on I-390 near West Henrietta Road around 9:00 a.m. Tuesday. The woman was able to get away and call police, which sparked the chase. Investigators say Morrison eventually drove into the city, hit another SUV and crashed into the building at the corner of South Avenue and Gregory Street.

Adrian Mallory said, “He actually swerved to avoid hitting me that's how he ended up hitting the building. He hit the curb, landed with a violent thud into the building. Everything happened so fast.”

Morrison took off on foot, but was quickly taken into custody. He remains in the hospital. There were no other injuries.
