The mother of the young man found buried in the backyard of his psychiatrist’s house is now suing the doctor.
The mother of Matthew Straton is suing Dr. William Lewek. Lewek is accused of burying Straton’s body in his backyard. Straton disappeared last October. Police say his body was discovered in Lewek's backyard in February.
The lawsuit blames Lewek for Straton’s death. Lewek is not charged with that in the criminal case. It also says what Lewek did, caused Straton’s family severe emotional distress.
Kimberley Straton, Matthew Straton's mother, said, “For 81 days, I was in a panic. I couldn't eat. I couldn't sleep.”
Kimberley Straton feared the worst. Her son, Matthew, went missing in October. Three months later, police found his body in the backyard of his psychiatrist, Dr. William Lewek’s home. Police say Straton died inside Lewek’s home and Lewek carried him outside and buried him in the backyard.
The lawsuit says, “Lewek supplied Straton with illegal drugs, encouraged him to use the drugs, cause or allowed Straton to die and disposed of the body”. All that caused “severe emotional distress” for Straton’s mom and the rest of his family. Click here to read the three-page lawsuit
Straton said, “It was a terrible feeling that you had to wake up to and go to sleep every night, knowing that I had no idea where my son was and this man knew all along where he was.”
There was one of Straton’s missing person’s posters outside Lewek’s home.
Matt Parrinello, Lewek's attorney, said, “I'm not surprised. I think we anticipated this coming.”
Matt Parrinello is Lewek’s attorney. News10NBC talked about the allegations in the suit, including the claim that Lewek encouraged Straton to use drugs.
Matt Parrinello, Lewek's attorney, said, “I don't have enough discovery, but I don't think anyone had to encourage Matthew Straton to take drugs. I think there's a history of drug use on his behalf.”
The lawsuit asked for punitive damages, but doesn’t say the amount.
There are hearings for Lewek’s criminal case in August and September. His trial is set for October.
