A local teacher is being nationally recognized for her work in the classroom.

The Rochester Broadway Theatre League held a surprise assembly Tuesday morning. Holly Valentine, a teacher at the Walt Disney Elementary School in Gates, was presented with the Rochester Broadway Theatre League’s Annual League Education Apple Award.

Teachers from across the country are nominated for the honor, which recognizes teachers who support the arts.

Holly Valentine said, “It's the arts that really come alive for the students and for me as a teacher. I just said to the RBTL l I didn't think I would be able to do it I didn't have arts in my classroom and the work that I’m able to do with the RBTL.”

This year, Valentine partnered with the RBTL for this year's Phantom: Beyond the Mask Program.
