Two hundred and ninety graduating seniors were recognized Tuesday for their outstanding academic accomplishments.

The Urban League of Rochester awarded nearly 100 of them with about two and a half million dollars in college scholarships.

William G. Clark, President and CEO, Urban League of Rochester, said, “We start with the parents and the students in ninth grade and explain to them the benefits of academic performance, the fact that scholarship funds are available if you excel, and we work with area colleges and high schools and put on workshops and seminars so the students know if they apply themselves, the sky is the limit."

This was the 35th year of the event.
