The Town Board Monday unanimously adopted a ban on hydrofracking. The ban is expected to take effect this summer after the state signs off on the local law.

The town currently has a moratorium against the unconventional natural gas drilling method commonly called fracking. The Village of Naples already bans the practice.

The ban will prohibit any new industrial activities involving natural gas that include storage or disposal of natural gas and production wastes and petroleum extraction and exploration.

A copy of the local law is available for review at the town clerk’s office, 106 S. Main St., during regular business hours.
