The Rochester Red Wings used a gem from Yohan Pino and two clutch hits from James Beresford as they shutout the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 4-0, on Thursday night at Frontier Field. The Wings have now won eight straight series openers. The Wings also avoided losing consecutive games at Frontier Field for the first time since April 17. The Wings are 22-10 at Frontier Field this season -- the 3rd-best home mark in Triple-A
The Red Wings recorded their 8th shutout of the season on Thursday – the T-2nd most in the IL with DUR and SYR (TOL has 9). The Wings shutout victory is the third that Pino has started this season.
The Wings have now won 8 of their last 9 against the IronPigs at Frontier Field and are 13-4 against Lehigh Valley over their last 17 games overall.
Yohan Pino threw seven scoreless innings allowing just two hits and three walks while striking out nine. Pino recorded his IL-leading ninth win of the season and lowered his ERA to 1.92 (13 ER/61 IP) – tied for 1st in IL. The right-hander is holding the opposition to a league-best .187 (41-for-219) batting average against and a WHIP of 0.93. Pino moved to 6-0 on the season at Frontier Field with an ERA of 0.64 (3 ER/42 IP) in eight games (four starts).
James Beresford (2-3; 3B, 2 RBI) extended his season-long hitting streak to nine games. Over this stretch, he’s batting .378 (14-for-37) with three doubles, a triple, eight runs, and three RBI. His 26 RBI on the season is tied for the most on the team with Deibinson Romero.
Wilkin Ramirez (0-for-3, R) failed to record a hit Thursday night, ending his career-long 12-game hit streak. The 12-gamer was the Wings second longest this season (Parmelee, 15). Over the streak, he batted .333 (16-for-48) with 10 RBI.
Josmil Pinto went 0-for-4 in his Red Wings season debut after being optioned down from Minnesota.
