Local little league teams were swinging away at Frontier Field on Saturday morning.

The annual Challenger World Series was played on the Rochester Red Wings field on Saturday. The team’s players are young kids who have physical and mental disabilities.

The first Challenger team was formed in Fairport. Now there are teams all across our area enjoying America’s favorite pastime.

Organizers say the kids love to play this series every year.

“They absolutely love it. Every year the kids come up to me and say ‘When’s the World Series game.’ They’re so excited. They just love this game. What I’ve seen it do for the children, we’ve been doing this for five years, is so amazing, especially watching their growth from just playing baseball and having fun,” said Pittsford Coach Judy Breitenbach.
