What better way to kick off summer than with lemonade to support a great cause?
On Monday, Rita's of Brighton, a frozen treat shop, is donating 20% of all sales for the day to Alex's Lemonade Stand, which helps support the fight against childhood cancer. The fundraiser begins at 12 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m. at the Tops' parking lot on South Clinton Avenue.
The event includes bounce houses, carnival games and raffles. The day also includes a visit from Liz Scott, the mother of Alex. Alex, who battled childhood cancer, started a lemonade stand as a way to help raise money for other children with cancer. Although she died in 2004 at the age of 8, her name lives on through her foundation, which has raised more than $80 million towards cancer research.
