Witnesses took the stand Thursday in the trial of a Rochester man accused of injuring an officer after committing a double murder.
Prosecutors say Ralph Strong Junior shot and killed Jahmia Singleton and Reggie Johnson outside a Central Avenue nightclub last June.
Strong is also accused of shooting at a Rochester Police sergeant who tried to pull him over -- days after the double murder.
Emotions ran high in court; family and friends of the two men shot and killed were brought to tears, many even got up and left. Some of the most chilling testimony came from Rochester Police Department officers. Three took the stand, describing what they saw the night of the double homicide last summer. Surveillance video was also shown to the jury. The judge is saying he will not release that for the public to see. It showed the parking lot near Club Network on Central Avenue where the shooting happened.
In it you can see a group of people gathering around. During what appeared to be an argument, a witness testified that she saw Strong pull out a gun during that argument and start shooting. That is when Jahmia Singleton and Reggie Johnson were allegedly shot and killed by Strong.
Three days later Strong was involved in a high speed chase and shoot out with RPD. That's when police say Strong shot Sergeant Flamur Zenelovic -- a passerby was also injured in the crossfire.
Bishop David Singleton, Jahmia's father says, "I can't bring my son back. The parents like us -- who've lost a child -- and the parents of this young man, everyone is hurting."
The police sergeant who was shot hasn't testified yet. We're not sure when he will.
