A tragic scene overnight after police say a teen was killed after being stabbed on Genesee Street Friday night.
Officers say they were called to the area of Kirkland Road and Judson Street around 10 p.m. Friday night for a report of a man shot. When they arrived, they found the victim, 17-year-old Travone Teasley, lying on the sidewalk unconscious with injuries to his upper body.
Teasley was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital by Rural/Metro where it was later determined that he was stabbed. He was pronounced dead by doctors shortly after arriving.
Captain John Corbelli says officers believe that Teasley was involved in a fight on Genesee Street, near Kirkland Road, when he was stabbed. Police say he ran from the scene, but collapsed a short distance later at Kirkland and Judson.
This isn’t the first crime to happen on Genesee Street this year. In January a 28-year-old was shot and killed in a parking lot. Some residents, like Tanecia Kahler and Jamese Gray, say the violence has them living in fear.
“It kind of scares me. It really does. I just have to be more careful wherever I go,” said Kahler.
“When stuff like this happens I try to stay close to home because I don’t want to get caught up in any of that,” said Gray.
The case is still under investigation by the Major Crimes Unit. They are asking anyone with any information to call 911.
Portions of Genesee and Kirkland streets were closed overnight until late Saturday morning as a result of the investigation.
