Saturday is the first day of summer, the longest day of the year. It's also an opportunity the Alzheimer Association uses to spread awareness about the debilitating disease.
According to the association, volunteer teams will be out in the Rochester area from sunrise to sunset for the Longest Day. They will be working to raise funds to help fight the disease and support the Alzheimer's Association.
The event -- held each year on the summer solstice -- "symbolizes the seemingly endless journey facing so many Alzheimer's disease patients," says organizers.
Volunteers will be hosting a number events including a bridge-a-thon called "A Day of Bridge" at the Irondequoit County Club from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
