A Buffalo man was sentenced Monday after he admitted to working as an optometrist in Pittsford without being licensed.

The State Attorney General’s Office says Shamil Tadros, 45, of Tonawanda, was sentenced Monday to a three year conditional discharge with the following conditions: to pay back $116,821 in criminal restitution, to complete 150 hours of community service, and to consent to random practice checks of his optical shop.

He pleaded guilty to fraud charges in January. Officials say Tadros treated patients at Pittsford Optical without ever having a valid license and then billed Medicaid and other healthcare companies for more than $115,000.
