An unintended target is how Rochester Police are describing a 14-year-old girl who was hit by a bullet Thursday night. It is an incident that gets people thinking about their safety. The thought of an innocent 14-year-old being shot while sitting on her porch on Burbank Street is scary for many.

Police believe that the shooter was down on Leo Street and shooting at an unknown target when the girl was hit by mistake. The girl is in stable condition, but does have serious injuries. No one has been arrested. Police will not release her name because of safety concerns.

Do police feel neighbors are in danger? News10NBC reached out to police and the mayor’s office multiple times for a comment, but neither got back to us.

News10NBC did speak to City Councilmember Adam McFadden, who says the police are doing what they can, but this is a problem the community needs help fixing.

The shooting on Burbank Street was just hours after a shooting a few blocks over on Boston Street where a 18-year-old man was killed and a 25-year-old was sent to the hospital. Police say it is too soon to tell if the two shootings were connected.
