The Buffalo Sabres opened the second day of the NHL draft by selecting forward Brendan Lemieux with the 31st overall pick.
Lemieux is the son of former New Jersey Devils star and Stanley Cup champion Claude Lemieux.
The Sabres continued to collect draft picks on Saturday, trading their 39th pick for the 44th and a third round selection. With pick 44, the Sabres took center Eric Cornel, then later grabbed wing Vaclav Karabacek with the 49th pick with their third and final pick of the second round.
In the third round, Sabres moved to defense, grabbing Swedish goalie Jonas Johansson and defensemen Brycen Martin with the newly acquired 74th pick.
On Friday, the Sabres selected center Sam Reinhart with the second overall pick. Reinhart, like Lemieux, is the son of a former NHL player -- Paul Reinhart. Paul was selected by the Atlanta Flames in the first round in 1979.
