State Police are warning people to leave the fireworks to the professionals this Fourth of July.

In New York State, possessing fireworks is not only illegal. It is a misdemeanor crime. Troopers say if you are caught with them, you will be brought in and fingerprinted.

Above all, troopers recommend heading to the closest professional fireworks show.

Trooper Mark O'Donnell, NYS Police, said, “Instead of playing with very dangerous explosives, leave it to the professionals. There are fireworks throughout the city and throughout the county, you and your family can enjoy safely. We encourage everybody to do so.”

Troopers say they will also be stepping up patrols around the holiday weekend, watching out for drunk or distracted drivers.
