Just days after a man is left with serious injuries from gunshot wounds in Farmington, another man is stabbed multiple times at the Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack in Farmington.
A man, said to be in his twenties, is now in the hospital after police say he was stabbed multiple times at the racetrack Friday morning. Authorities are calling it an act of retaliation to a nearby shooting just two days ago.
Sheriff Phil Povero, Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, said, “This is a targeted situation. This is not just some random act.
The two men, both in their twenties and both workers who assist trainers in caring for the horses at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack, are said to be the victim and the suspect in Friday’s stabbing. The stabbing happened just before 11:00 a.m. Friday near the horse stables.
Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero says the suspect fled the scene and may have left the area altogether.
Sheriff Povero said, “There is a suspect vehicle, a possible four door older green Honda, which is being sought at this particular time.”
Police say a shooting Wednesday night at nearby Hunts Mobile Home Park likely sparked Friday’s altercation. The suspects in both cases knew each other. The victim of the shooting on Terri Drive is 23-year-old Luiz Garcia Cruz. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and underwent a lengthy surgery at Strong Hospital. He's now in guarded condition. Friday's stabbing is sparking concerns about safety at the racetrack where it all happened, but the sheriff says no one is in danger.
Sheriff Povero said, “I don't believe, at this point, that the racetrack plays any other role other than being the geographic location where these people are encountering each other.”
The victim of Friday’s stabbing was taken to Strong Hospital. His injuries are not life threatening.
