It was a frightening situation on Lake Ontario Friday. A small boat with seven people on board was blown into the pier and started taking on water. This happened at the end of the Irondequoit Bay pier.
The driver says the engines cut out and the wind took over. The wind blew his boat right into the rocks. The impact caused a huge hole at the bottom of the hull.
Augustine Ramos owns the boat and was driving it.
Augustine Ramos said, “A few minutes was enough for the waves to pull it against the rocks.”
Berkeley Brean asked, “The boat was taking on water out in the lake? Was water coming into the boat?”
Ramos said, “No, just after it hit the rocks.”
Brean asked, “After it hit the rocks, it started taking on water?”
Ramos said, “Yes.”
There were seven people on the boat including a baby. They were rescued by people who were on the pier. Ramos got ticketed by the sheriff’s office for not having the baby in a life jacket.
Brean asked, “What were you thinking?”
Ramos said, “Bad luck.”
Brean asked, “Just bad luck? We’re you scared at all or nervous for your family?”
Ramos said, “Not me, but my family was pretty nervous.”
One person was checked out by EMTs at the scene, but nothing serious.
