He was the key piece to the Jason Pommenville trade...and now Tim Murray has decided Matt Hackett has earned another year with Sabres organization.

Today, Hackett agreed to a one-year, $750,000 two way contract.

The 24-year-old net minder spent a majority of last season in Rochester. Hackett began the year as the clear number 1 for Chadd Cassidy's team, but eventually lost his job to Nathan Lieuwen. The two ended the year splitting time in Rochester and in Buffalo after all of the injuries to Jhonas Enroth and Michael Nievirth.

Hackett's season ended in Boston last year after a nasty knee injury. Hacket could vie for a spot in Buffalo if he shows up to camp healthy.
