A push is on to name the new national cemetery in western New York for a decorated veteran of two wars who founded what became the Central Intelligence Agency.

Veteran's group leaders and Sen. Charles Schumer visited the site in Pembroke in Genesee County on Monday. They said the first veterans' cemetery in the Buffalo-Rochester area should be named for Gen. William "Wild Bill" Donovan, who led the Office of Strategic Services during World War II.

Donovan was from Buffalo and received the Medal of Honor for heroics in World War I.

Schumer also wants the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to buy more acreage around the 132-acre site about 25 miles east of Buffalo.

The region's only other national veterans' cemetery is in Bath in Steuben County, nearly 90 miles from Buffalo and 60 miles from Rochester.
