A 13-year-old boy with autism is fighting for his life. Jonah Walpole was pulled from his family’s pool unresponsive Monday night. He is in guarded condition.
Richard Millspaugh says he witnessed the commotion after his 13-year-old neighbor, Jonah Walpole, was pulled from the bottom of his family’s swimming pool.
Richard Millspaugh, neighbor, said, “He's autistic and they keep a 24-7 vigil on him.”
Millspaugh says Jonah’s father told him he only took his eyes of his son for just a few minutes while he was inside the house with his other three children.
Millspaugh said, “They were outside playing. Jonah was on the swing. We all saw him swinging. Next thing you turn around, the swing set was empty and he was looking for him and couldn't find him because he was already in the pool.”
Millspaugh says the boy’s father, who is also a nurse, pulled his son from the bottom of the pool, called 911 and began performing CPR. Millspaugh said the boy’s mother had just left for a wedding in India.
Millspaugh said, “They tried to get in touch with her, but apparently the airlines have some regulations, they can’t say anything.”
The sheriff's office says no charges have been filed. At this time, this just appears to be an accident.
