If you have health insurance in New York get ready. Insurance companies are asking for double digit increases in the monthly premiums you have to pay.

If that's happening to you, contact us at bbrean@whec.com

By law in New York, health insurance providers must submit their proposed premium rate increases to the state. The State Department of Financial Services either accepts the rate increase or lowers it. (Usually, the state lowers the request).

But this year, insurance companies are asking for rate increases of 16% to 22%.

Here’s the question we keep hearing from you: wasn't the Affordable Care Act supposed to make health care less expensive?

That's what we're digging into. We're going to get you some answers to explain the proposed increases, where it's happening and what you can do to try to absorb the increased costs.

But we want to hear from you too. So email bbrean@whec.com to share your thoughts.
