Utilities report about 35,000 customers remain without power in the aftermath of severe storms that killed four people and left a swath of property damage across central New York.

National Grid reported about 19,500 customers across the state with power outages as of 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, with the majority in central New York counties. NYSEG reported about 5,200 customers without power and Rochester Gas & Electric reported 1,100.

National Grid officials said they expect to restore power by Thursday morning to 80 percent of customers affected by the storm, but some hard-hit areas may take longer to repair.

Early Wednesday morning, about 72,000 were without power in central and northern New York.
