The replacement of a culvert on Route 64 will close the road just north of County Road 34 beginning on or about July 16.
A detour around the work site will be posted directing motorists to use Route 21 and Route 5 and 20. The closure will be restricted to 30 days or less, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The new culvert is being fabricated and delivery is expected next month. The DOT stated that the existing culvert is old and deteriorated and the head walls failed a few weeks ago, forcing the DOT to narrow the lane width.
“We realize this short term closure is a hardship, which is why we’re doing everything we can to keep the closure to a minimum. Please spread the word to encourage people to continue to patronize the local businesses located in the surrounding area,” DOT Assistant Construction Engineer John Starke stated in an email about the project.
