There was another hearing for a man convicted in two murders over a decade ago. In court Thursday was the wife of another man, who says her husband is the one who committed the crimes.
Charles Pierre is serving time for killing two people and setting fire to their home in 2002, but his attorneys say another man confessed to the crime. That man’s wife spoke at Thursday’s hearing.
Kathy Boyd told the court that her husband, Darrell Boyd, admitted to beating two people with a baseball bat and setting their apartment on fire back in 2002. Kathy Boyd is a key witness in the defense’s fight to get Charles Pierre a new trial.
Pierre is the man who was convicted of the murders Boyd says her husband confessed to. Boyd says her husband told her he killed two people in the downstairs apartment of their former home on 1st Street in Rochester. But Pierre has served 12 years so far for those murders.
Kathy Boyd only wanted to make one statement leaving the courtroom. She talked about Charles Pierre, whose nickname is Teddy.
Kathy Boyd said, “All I can is that I hope that I helped Teddy and Darrel Boyd is behind me. That’s all I’ve got to say.”
The judge is expected to decide in the next week if he is going to grant a new trial.
