Jerry J. Helfer, Deputy Town Supervisor for Greece, has died at the age of 48 following a brief illness.
Officials say prior to being appointed to Deputy Town Supervisor, Helfer served as Assistant County Executive, a member of the Greece Planning Board, Greece Board of Zoning Appeals and the Greece Youth Board.
Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich said, “Jerry was a very talented individual and a valuable asset to the town. Most importantly, however, Jerry will be remembered for his devotion to his wife Devan and his entire family. Anyone who was fortunate to have known Jerry, liked him. He was a gentle soul who had a deep concern for those around him. He will be sadly missed.”
Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks issued a statement saying, "Jerry Helfer was a loyal and dedicated part of my team for nearly twenty years and it would be difficult to find a better public servant, person, and friend. A testament to his spirit and character, Jerry’s dedication to our community was eclipsed only by his commitment to his family and friends. Jerry’s passing leaves sadness in the hearts of all who knew him, but his memory and legacy will certainly live on in our community for years to come."
