A Canandaigua man has been convicted of plotting to burn down a house his wife owned. He now faces up to 15 years behind bars.
According to our news partners at the Messenger Post, 33-year-old Samuel Crawford was found guilty Thursday of arson and insurance fraud.
He came up with a plan to burn down a house on Saltonstall Street last December. According to testimony, the tenants had moved out and code violation fees kept piling up. Witnesses also said the family needed money for Christmas gifts.
Investigators say Crawford's wife and friend actually set the house on fire. They are charged and awaiting trial.
Crawford is scheduled to be sentenced in September.
