It is a reminder that the NFL season is getting close. On Friday, Buffalo Bills players and coaches arrived at St. John Fisher College for this year’s training camp.
Camp returns to St. John Fisher for the 15th year. The past nine years, Fred Jackson has been moving in and out of these dorms. It can become tedious at times, but for Fred, move-in day is all in the family.
Fred Jackson, said, “It is our family travel, makes it easy. Put the kids in the back, put a movie on and don't hear from them again.”
Fred Jackson is not only a veteran football player; he is a veteran father with three daughters and a son. He knows a thing or two about making the kids happy on a long car ride or bus ride. The Jackson family arrived to camp in a Mercedes bus filled with movies and video games.
Jackson said, “It makes it easier for everybody. They are entertained and the trip is quick and easy that way.”
After questions about his family and the vehicle, Jackson started talking football.
Ball security is critical for a running back. Maybe Fred learns how to hold onto the football, by watching his wife.
Jackson said, “My wife is better at it than I am. She surprises me with things she can do while holding a baby.”
For the next month, the Jacksons will once again call St. John Fisher College home.
Jackson said, “My oldest daughter was saying ‘you have to leave for camp soon’. That is the type of stuff you will remember and what you want them to remember. Knowing where you were going and helping me move, we can talk about that while I’m a grandpa, I can tell their children so.”
Practices begin Sunday evening at 6 p.m. Click here for the 2014 Training Camp Schedule.
