News10NBC has learned that some local grocery stores have recalled some varieties of nectarines, plums, peaches and several products made with these fruits. Those grocery stores include Wegmans, BJ's, Sam's Club and Trader Joes.
The fruit was supplied by California-based Wawona Packing Company, which issued a voluntary recall when routine testing showed potential contamination wwith listeria or listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes deadly infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer short-term symptoms like a high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Wegmans customers who purchased the recalled products between June 1 and July 20, should throw the item out and then visit the Service Desk at your local store for a full refund.
If you have additional questions about the recall, please contact Wawona at 1-888-232-9912, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
