A Siena College poll of likely New York voters shows 65 percent think most state legislators do what's best for themselves and their political friends and that it's no surprise when another one gets indicted.

The telephone poll last week shows 28 percent believe most legislators are honest, hardworking and do what's best for their constituents, while 7 percent say they don't know.

Still, 49 percent say they would re-elect their own state senator, while 35 percent would prefer someone else.

Also, 41 percent say they would re-elect their own Assembly member, while 37 percent want someone different.

Siena's Steven Greenberg calls the voter criticism of the legislators as a group "a rhetorical indictment."

The poll of 774 New Yorkers reports a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
